CHICKADEE, BLACK-CAPPED - Poecile atricapillus

State bird of Maine and Massachusetts. The bird is clearly visible on Maine’s standard plate, as well as welcome signs on major Massachusetts roads. It lives in the deciduous and mixed forests, nests in holes of the trees it digs or uses those of the woodpeckers. Dimensions: 12-15 cm. Wingspan: 16-21 cm.
